Well. Well. Well….
OK, I’m not sure we can even say I’m off to a ____ start. Good, rough, fast, slow, none of these words seems adequate.
Here is what I did this week toward my goal of working 30 minutes per day on my Penny Sampler Quilt.
- I took a picture of the blocks I have finished at the beginning of the challenge, including the Dala Horse and Sunflower that are almost finished.
- I printed out the directions for the Hanging Diamonds block. I also read them, and reread them about a dozen times…had a little trouble focusing.
- I pressed all the fabrics I need for this (approx.) 12″ X 52″ border block and carefully hung them on a hanger on the closet door knob.
- I thought about it a lot! and that made me happy.
I’m sure next week will be better, more productive.

Next week is sure to be better! I always have a hard time when reading pattern instructions, there has to be lots of photos for me…
CeLynn, thank you, and you are right, this week is better!
So many lovely blocks….that horse is so cute.
Some days all I could do is pull fabrics for a couple of blocks. I was happy with that. I was doing something for me.

Thank you, Kathleen.
You can’t rush a project and expect it to turn out the way you want. I have to keep telling myself this very thing. Your penny sampler blocks are wonderful! What a nice display!
Lorna, that is nice of you to say. I’m an avid follower of yours.
Fantastic idea to drape the fabric over a hanger, I normally just drape it on the arm of the sofa and then the kids knock it down I will start hanging it, thanks for the idea, and good luck with your goals next week.
Thanks, Mara!
Ironing and reading directions is a good start! Now you’re all ready to whip out that rotary cutter and get to work : ) Hope you have a “wonderful” adjective for next week, Janie!
Thank you, Sarah. I’m so glad you created this challenge!
You made a start on what you what to do, and I like that you ironed and hung up your pieces. I use the rack from a old hang dryer, hooked to inside of bedroom door. You read you patterns directions, and that is a great goal. See you next week, horse is so cute…..
Thank you, Lori!
You can’t create beautiful things without thinking about them first, so I think that counts as progress. Good luck with week 2!
Thank you for the encouragement!
Don’t give up! Sometimes I have to look at things too before I get motivated!
Thank you, Nina!
A really lovely start… and all that planning will make it easier as you go forward.
Thank you, Ms Wombat!
